Historical Istanbul bazaars are divided by Golden Horn in 2 parts.
Genoan and Venetian bazaars.
Genoan part is concentrated in banking and Venetian part in commodity trade. And these bazaars control all Turkey economy.
These have been established by Italian merchants and still the daily transaction practices are alive and functioning.

Myself in 1975, the sea (golden horn) divides Genoan buildings (on my back side) and Venetian trade (Tahtakale, Sultanhamam districts) areas in my front direction.
Photo very well frozen in time.
